Just recieved the certificate in question in the mail yesterday... they did exactly what I figured they would... they went to page 236 and then went through the book til they got to page 239 and there was my 2nd GGF. Yay!

Just got back from the FRC. Found the entry you're after and although the last two digits are poorly reproduced I'm pretty certain the page number is 459

I'm going into the FRC in about half an hour - I'll have a look at the entry. Simon

As long as you have the year, district and Vol # you should be fine... I just guessed at this one page number with a question mark after it and fired it off anyway. When the GRO staff check the index themselves they won't be able to read it either, so they'll just go to the book and look for the name.

If you write to the local register office you should be able to get the certificate by giving them the information you have for £7. I think it would cost you £11.50 from the GRO if you don't have the reference number. Liz

Try the local Register Office, you don't need the GRO number there.

A piece of advice please? I have found a GRO ref for birth of ALFRED TAPSTER, Sep 1892, Sleaford, Vol 7a but no page number is given on either Ancestry or Free BMD. I have viewed & saved the image on 1837online and the problem is that the page no is almost impossible to decipher. How do I go about ordering the certificate? Thanks Helen
