Thanks Louise, You're a star! How's this for impressive service though! Found the website, emailed them for advice, got a reply within TEN MINS! Records on pilots are held at Kew, records on the actual lighthouses (which might be useful if I can establish where he worked) are at the Guildhall although a lot didn't survive the bomb that landed on Trinity House in 1940 but she's emailed me a list of what did and what can be searched at the Guildhall. Wonder if Pete wants a copy to add to his extensive collection of military etc knowledge! Lou |

Lou, Don't be daft! Email me the details and I'll take a look. I live near Kew and will be going along on the 5th and no doubt lots more afterwards. I have no idea how long it will take to find things but if you can wait I'll cetainly get round to it. Besides if I help you I don't need to feel guilty when I ask for help on my tricky Manchester rellies! Louise |

I don't like to ask! Seems cheeky when they're going all that way probably to look up their own stuff. And to be honest I don't know too much about this guy or how far the records go back. He was born 1760 in Sunderland and winds up in Essex at some point before the '41. I imagine his apprenticeship would be around 1775-1780. I'll have a look at that Trinity website Pete suggested and see whether I can find anything more out Lou |

Trinity might be a reference to Trinity House, which is an organisation for sea-going people. When I was growing up in Hull back in the dark ages, there was a school called Trinity House School which was for pupils who were going into occupations concerned with going to sea. Perhaps they were also involved with training and managing pilots? |

Me again....sorry! Nothing in my book for this one and google gave me no clues. Got a chap who is a Retired Trinity Pilot. Now I know a pilot was a ship's steerman but has anyone any idea what the Trinity part is? Thanks Lou |
