Unfortunately the 1841 census will not give you birthplaces - only whether they were born 'in county' or not. The 1851 will give you this info, and is also more widely available so someone on here might be able to do a lookup for you. Samuel would have been about 16 by 1851, so could well be still living with his parents at that time.

And don't forget, if you find the 1841 census, the ages of people over 10 are rounded to the nearest 5 years - and no relationships are given either. I have one family Im interested in, has three James aged 15, the Head of the household is also James, aged 70. All were born in Lancashire. Useless. Hope you have better luck. Marjorie

I don't think the 1841 is available online anywhere, but its possible you might find something by googling. nell

His mother's first name (though not necessarily her maiden surname) will be in the parish baptism register if he was baptised, which I should think quite likely. If his father was still alive when Samuel was 5, then you should be able to find the family all together on the 1841 census. This should give ages of both parents and their places of birth. nell

I have info on SAMUEL BUNTING (born Stockport, Cheshire 1835). I know his father's name from his marriage cert (WILLIAM) Is there anyway to find out any info on his father's place of birth / mother's name? Thank you, Ju xx
