Sorry to butt in but Peter while you're around - know you're a military buff! I have a hunch my great grandad was in the first Boer War in 1880. I found a brilliant site that had 40k names of veterans of the 2nd Boer War but not the 1st. Do you know of anywhere I could get an index of names who fought in this war? Thanks Debby

If the dates are any were near right that would put his arivel in UK in the middle of the Boer war. which makes thing intresting. Was he working for the British? Here are two sites that might help with that and the next if he was later 1914- 1918 and the last is one were you might find him on a ships list. www.national-army-museum.ac.uk/pages/boer.html http://hometown.aol.*co.*uk/heatherasplin/bwsl99.html If this dose not open replace the L with an 1 on the l99 www.1914-1918.net www.cyndislist.*com/uksites.htm Remove* cyndi's list is a links site to others to do with Ship lists.
