I don't think FreeBMD will have a date as late as 1940 on it. You'll need to look on the GRO index for the reference number. If you want to send to the local register office I would say it would be the area where he actually died - but you could always give them a ring to ask. Anne

Lynn Deaths are registered in the area where they occurred. If he died in Eastbourne he will be registered there. You can apply to the local register office which is Town Hall Grove Road Eastbourne East Sussex BN21 4UG Tel +44 (0)1323 410000 ext 5051 Fax +44 (0)1323 431386 or order online from the GRO. nell

hi my gfandfather as far as i know died in eastbourne after being injured in dunkirk but was buried in a war grave in handsworth cemetary in birmingham, would i get a copy of his death certificate from birmingham or eastbourne thanks lynn
