Well a birth cert would help clear that up, hopefully. nell

Nell Have found Son Thomas on 1901 with wife Charlotte with Henry(22), Charlotte (18), Thomas(10) and Ethel(8). I believe Ethel to be my wife's Grandmother. One problem is that Mum-in-law (89 and going strong) says her mums maiden name was ROLFE. Got any aspirin? Best wishes Jack

Jack I've just re-read that 1881 entry - it says that Edith Ogden is the daughter of Thomas Roffe senior and it is Jane who is the visitor. Curioser and curioser... nell

Jack Can you find Thomas Junior on the 1901 - he may be with his wife in which case you can work out who married his dad, perhaps. nell

Thanks for all that Info Nell. We must not overlook that he had a son called Thomas shown on 1881 so who married who? Thank goodness that we dont all give our kids family names generation after generation. Many thanks Jack

Is it possible that Tydus Jane and Charlotte were connected to them? Maybe the father and son married a mother/daughter or even sisters? nell

Jack Either he remarried and was widowed again, or he had all these children out of wedlock. you could ask for an 1891 lookup to see who he was with then, and check for remarriage on Freebmd. The children's birth certs would give their mother's name. By the way, is this Richmond, Surrey or Richmond North Yorks? nell

I have found G G Grandfather Thomas Roffe on 1881 aged 40 a widow at that time. I have also found him 1901 (age 59). The mystery is that in 1901 he has children Martha (18), Ernest (12), Lily (8), William(7) and Charles(2) all living with him in Richmond and all born after he was widdowed!! Any thoughts on whats happening? Fingers crossed for some insight. Jack Walker
