Do you know if your father was the eldest of the 6 children or one of the younger ones? If you know when the eldest was born, you could have a rough guess at when your grandparents married. If you can find the reference for their marriage certificate, and order it, it will at least give you your paternal great-grandfathers name and occupation, and you should then be able to find him on the 1901 census. Sound like dad is still alive, so ask him for everything he knows first. He should know when/where his mum and dad married and their birth dates so you are on the trail. Get their marriage or birth certs and you will see the names of the fathers on the marriage cert and the mothers maiden names on the birth certs. To order the certificates you could go to the local office or the GRO records office on line. Either way they will cost £7 each.
