HOW CAN I FIND DETAILS RE MY GRANDMOTHER NAMED LOUISE SAVAGE, SHE LIVED IN LYNTON ROAD BERMONDSEY AT ONE TIME IN HER LIFE AND MY FATHER WHO IS NOW DECEASED WAS ONE OF HER CHILDREN HIS NAME WAS WILLAIM LESLIE GATES, SO I KNOW SHE WAS MARRIED TO A MR ? GATES, MY FATHER WAS BORN IN ABOUT 1916 AND DIED IN 1974, HE TOLD ME HIS MOTHER WAS FOUND STRANGLED WHEN HE WAS ABOUT 2YEARS OF AGE, I HAVE NO DEATH CERT FOR HER OR NEWSPAPERS AND NO ONE I CAN ASK.

Hi Carol There would probably have been something in the local newspaper at the time. Old newspapers are usually found in the records office local to the area. If you can't get there yourself you could ask on the Records board if someone could look for you. Jeanette x

hi 1st i would get your dads birth cert as this will give his mums maiden name, and dads name. If she died when your dad was 2 that gives you an approx time scale to look for a death for her. you can search on 1837 online, at the frc or your local records office holds the gro index on fiche for free. Once you have found her death, you can then search for newspaper articles as you will have an area and time scale hope this helps sandra

It would be worth getting your father's birth certificate to confirm that she was married to Mr Gates. nell
