With PAF there is a Match/Merge Feature, Go to the Tools option on the top toolbar. You then can merge each one individually, but be very careful because there is no Undo feature if you accidentally merge the wrong two individuals.

My (prewindows) version of PAF had a facility for this, so yours must do. But I'm sure I had to choose details to eliminate, and goodness only knows what happens if details differ slightly. All I can say is, good luck and I hope it isn't too much like hard work. B

Thanks Carole, all sounds a bit complicated to me, but will have a try later. Trudy

You will need a program that reads gedcom files (eg Legacy) - I assume you already do as you know what's on the tree. Open your PAF record then click on file - export - and select a gedcom format. Choose a new name, different from the other gedcom file. Open the program that reads the files and open the new file you have created. You can then import into that one the records from other gedcom file, thereby creating a merged file. (I can't give you detailed instructions, as it no doubt differs from program to program). The original paf & gedcom files will remain intact. If you mess up when playing with the merged records, you can always delete it & start again. Good luck, Carole

Hi, can anyone answer me a question. I have my info on PAF, and have been sent a gedcom file by someone tracing a different part of one of my lines, so some of the info they have is the same as mine and some is not, although we both have different notes, sources etc for some things. Is there a way I can merge the two files without losing any of the original information - I appreciate that it might not all merge perfectly and will need tidying up, but this is something I have never tried before. I will obviously make a back up of both before I start - I couldn't bear to have to start from the beginning again!! Many thanks Trudy PS Advice on how I actually merge the files would be gratefully received.
