Peggy is short for Margaret but I don't know about Nobby. I once new a girl who called her son Nobby and he was really Steve. Poor boy must be 16 now and is probably still saddled with the embarrassment. Aileenx

We have a Peggy christened Peggy and known as that. Her mother was often called Peggy too, although her real name was Williamina. I think it is often used for people christened Margaret.

I had a Margeret who was christened Peggy. She can't have liked it much as she was Margaret after then.

Peggy is usually a nickname for Margaret. Nobby - dont know usually Clark but then my father used to call a friend Nobby who wasnt a Clark, so not sure where it would come from!

Is Peggy short for Margaret? Also Why would someone be called 'Nobby' if their name isn't Clarke? Apparently my grandfather had a brother and everyone can remember him as Nobby and nothing else! Many thanks Peter
