Hi Hayley, Sorry to hear your bad news, is this person actually down on your birth cert, as your father? or have you just taken your mothers word for it? If the person you had phoned just denied that her son was the father I may have had doubts, but the fact she has given you a definate name for your likely father, means that you should follow it up, maybe she know a lot of what went on regarding your birth, Good Luck! Jess Bow, sorry I know its not funny, but you made me smile with your story, reckon when you start delving into all this you develop a wicked sense of humour to help you cope. Hayley if you need another look up for the name she gave you e-mail me. Best Wishes Sheila

If it were me I'd want to know for sure - so would try finding both of them and seeing what they said. It may be that the man put down as the father may know that he wasn't which may be why they split up. Although I knew who my birth father was from the adoption records my Dad kept at home (which I found!!!) and subsequently in my adoption file I was shocked to find no father's name on my birth certificate when I finally obtained it awhile back. My bm says she thought she'd put it in. However having recently met up with one of my bf daughter's I saw photo's and there's no doubt at all who my father was. My bm however is currently denying that she's ever had children (to her friends) despite having had 7. Me and then 6 with her husband. She's also used 3 christian names and 4 surnames since I was born!!!

I had better than that (sorry i know its not funny) despite being named on my birth certificate my MOTHER denied having me! She had two daughters, and when the first met her and asked about any subsequent children, she denied it. When asked again she said she'd 'forgotten for a moment....' She also denied ever knowing anybody by the name of my birth father, despite having had a previous daughter by the same man. Again when really pressed replied ' Well, I didn't know his name.............' Take everything birthparents tell you as a 'maybe'It may be the truth, it may not and until you have PROOF. If your birth mother thinks you are close to finding your birth father she may well say he is the wrong man- My birth mother claimed to know nothing of where my birth father went after i was born (remeber, she didn't know his name and yet she knew CATAGORICALLY that he had dies 'some years ago' because a frend had told her......) sorry waffling now! jess x

Hi Haley, What a shock! I take it you were adopted? I don't see why she would lie right now but did she explain why the father's name on your birth certificate was wrong? Crista
