The importance of siblings of ancestors

This is probably more of a success story rather than a tip but I guess it can be both. Years ago I got in the habit of including everybody in my family lines with the exception of spouses as their families wouldn't be any relation to me. Well all that paid off the other day... I was searching the Hardiman surname board and low and behold somebody was asking about a same weird first name that is in my tree. Took a chance and emailed the person.... turns out she is indeed a cousin of mine who still lives in the very ancestral village as did my Hardimans and she has gone back to 1486!!! She then informed me someone went to Canada and someone went to Australia. We volleyed emails back and forth for 3 hrs the other night! LOL LOL

I agree Gordon, i always put siblings on my tree and it proved to be lucky for me also. It turned out that my G Grandmother's brother on my dad's side (related by marriage thank god) married my G Grandad's sister on my mum's side!! Just glad that he's only related my marriage and that nothing dodgy went on! c x

Ive got siblings but tend not to put in all their spouses. As you say, it can give you good leads. I found the connection between GGFx2 in Stepney and GGFx3 in Norfolk just because of an unusual first name which gave me a lead where to look.

I think siblings are very important. By putting all the family in and following each one I have discovered a couple of childless uncles - their wills are real crackers with lots and lots of nephews and neices names!! nne

Gordon, I have Hardman in my tree and just seeing that you were mentioning the name Hardiman, I have seen some of mine spelt as Hardiman? and some of mine went to Oz in the 1800's. Only we have no strange first names all very usual ones :-( That is terrific news for you. No wonder you are excited. Well done. Pat x

Sent you an email... I was looking at Bowerchalke Parish Registers yesterday and I noticed there were some misspellings of the name Hardiman in there, they were the right people in my tree but someone decided it should be spelled differently. Gord
