Thank you everyone. I do realise now it has been pointed out that there is something amiss on the year. I am waiting for the searcher to come back to me.

Hi Joan, Matt makes a good point. A grandfather who was born 150 years ago? That must be a record. Perhaps the year is wrong? Crista

Hello I gather you're trying to get a ref for a birth cert for: Alfred George Moore, born Bayswater, 12 Jan 1856 I looked at the FreeBMD images site (http://images.freebmd.org.uk) - and they do have that sort of period but the relevant image for 1856 March qtr (1856B1-L-S-0372) doesn't include an Alfred George Moore, nor does 1856B1-L-S-0375 include a George Alfred Moore (just in case the names were switched round); and 1856B1-L-S-0371 doesn't have him with 'Moor', either. In the next qtr on 1856B2-I-R-0687, there's an Alfred in Camberwell, but that's about the best I could find. I'll leave it to you to hunt, I think! - but you'd better check the images I looked at in case there's something you'd recognise which I missed. Christine

Hiya Crista Hope you are well. The person wanting to come to UK sent me the birthdate 12 Jan 1856 for grandad. I, too, have found nothing on cencus (checked on 1837 for 1861 cencus) or on births. Probably illegitimate but without mother's maiden name I am stuck. Can't even apply for certificate without definite information on his birth. Nothing found for James Howard Moore - his father - either. Am awaiting information as to when they went to NZ.

Joan, Just searched 1856 Jan and Jun quarters and there's nothing. How did you get the date of birth? Without having the birth cert it can't be relied upon. Crista

Hi Joan, FreeBMD and Ancestry have no coverage for that year so it will mean looking at 1837online. When did they arrive in Australia? Crista

Am trying to assist someone in Australia who wants to come to work in UK. Her grandfather was born in England so she is entitled to come to UK. Only problem is she does not know the names of her grandfather's mother. Grandfather: Alfred George Moore, born Bayswater, 12 Jan 1856. His father: James Howard Moore. Need to find James' wife information to enable searcher to order the certificate for grandfather Alfred. I have searched Ancestry and FreeBMD and turned up nothing at all. I am good at finding the living but am useless at genealogy. Help welcomed.
