hi guys I am looking for mary jane sword born around 1855 northumberland. Have searched 1837 online, ancestry, free bmd and newcastle registry office and cant find her anywhere until 1871 census where shes a servant(not much help in looking for her parents) I have her marriage certificate which names her father as james sword. If any one can me any tips on where else to look id be grateful. Thanks Sharon

In 1855 it wasn't compulsory to register births. Lots of people did not. Have you tried the LDS on www.familysearch.org? If they have entered the relevant baptisms you might be lucky. However if you do find her bear in mind you should really check it out with the actual parish records - they sometimes give more details anyway. Anne

I know from helping out a Geordie friend with her tree that several of her ancestors births were registered in County Durham rather than Northumberland. You only have to cross the Tyne for the county to change so a move to the other side of the river made all the difference. Also it seems from IGI that the name Sword has it's roots up in Scotland, perhaps her parents were born or married there?

cant find her anywhere even searched the wives of james sword marriages in northumberland around that time to see if she was born before the mother was married but no luck their either.
