Thanks to Lou and Lyla I am now exploring the possibility of James Allison being born in Scotland about 1855. I know his father was a Brass finisher and think he is on the 1891 census born in scotland. This is all I know about him. Any advice on where to look - census or his for birth. I don't mind paying to find him but don't know how to go about it. alice

Hi Alice Try Scotlandspeople(.)gov(.)uk 30 units cost 6 pound but well worth it. Carole

The best site for Scotland is probably www(.)scotlandspeople(.)gov(.)uk You have to pay but it is only £6 for 30 credits and you download images very easily. You could also try scotsorigins or take a look at the links from GENUKI. Good luck, Louise PS. Be aware that Catholic records are only very rarely on the scotlandspeople site. I found lots of my rellies there but none of the Catholic ones!
