Thank you all for your replies. You are right. I had a marvellous time and so did Connie. She has set me task of searching out a number of her rellies. Whats more, I am expected to report back and take her out for lunch again pretty soon. The pressure is on!

.....and how lucky is your 95 year old relative? It must be wonderful at that age to still be respected by your family as a source of family wisdom. I bet she enjoyed it every bit as much as you! Best wishes Natalie

Louise You're very lucky! I have lost all my grandparents, parents, aunts & uncles and could kick myself for not paying much attention when my nanan used to ramble on about the family! I have received snippets of info from my older cousins but nothing they've told me so far has come to light! I've written some letters to some of my fathers side (think they're his cousins children) but haven't dared post them yet! Well done - you must be very pleased with yourself ( and to Connie of course!) Debby

I’ve had such a good day I just had to share it! Today I visited the oldest surviving person in my tree. She is called Connie and was married to my first cousin twice removed. She is an amazing 95 but has the energy of a much younger person. I had to run to keep with her as she clambered from the car and headed into her favourite hotel for lunch! Connie is a retired journalist and has an incredible memory. She had loads of stories and I am particularly blown away by how much she could tell me about my great and great great grandparents. We were able to identify a number of people on old photos, a couple of my more tenuous links were confirmed, I’ve got about 20 new people to add to my tree and best of all I have lots of gossip, nicknames and other stuff that I never thought that I’d be able to find out. So, make sure you visit any elderly living relatives. The information I got today is priceless and not available from anyone else! Louise
