I have contacted 1837online to say 22 Curtain Road, Shoreditch St Leonards is missing on the 1861. At first they told me that very few were missing and as far as they knew Curtain Road was complete. I asked if they could find no. 22 then and have now been told it must be mistranscribed. What suggestions has any one got for a possible mistranscription of that name?

Maybe Captain? Depends how bad the handwriting was, or how bad the transcriber was lol

Hi Heather, I've had 'C's mistranscribed as L, E and A! Not sure how much this helps you as I'm struggling to come up with sensible words!!! Were they in London? If yes, maybe you could get hold of an old street map for the area if you know roughly where they were in the next census. May be worth a try if you're getting desparate. Louise

Hanson Pat. But when I entered 22 Curtain Road Shoreditch St Leonards a whole lot of house numbers came up but nos. 11-75 seemed to be missing.

Sorry Pat, went off to try some of those variations on 1837 - no luck so far. Yes, the birth certificate of GGFx2, James Robert Hanson born 1860 is shown as 22 Curtain Road, Shoreditch St Leonards. I have found his father and the two girls at New Inn ( I think this is their cabinet carving workshop) so am assuming mum and the boy are still at 22 Curtain Road. Mary Ann Hanson aged 29 James Robert Hanson aged 1

Update, got email from 1837online - apparently some pages are missing and some unreadable so looks like 22 Curtain Road's occupants will remain a mystery. Thanks everyone for your input.

Here are some veriants i came up with Cotten cortain ceeitain cartain curlane Cortain This is looking at letters that might be miss scribed if its not the first letter. I think you have to look for eather the U or the E being the main prob as they can be see as sevral other letters witten badly (And Cutain is another)

Many thanks Shelli I was sort of expecting the worse. I have done so many variations on the street name and the name of the possible occupants that I feared it was an impossible task. But many thanks as always for everyones kind help. I really appreciate it.
