Val If you cant go forwards with the information, then you will have to go backwards from what you know to be correct. I dont know how you would check events in Sweden - does the entry on LDS give a submitters name? If so, you could try to contact them through the LDS site although be warned, many of the submitters have died! I am rather jaundiced about the Ancestral Files on there. My family has been submitted as going back to the year 813, its total and utter make believe, has a two hundred year gap in it. I tried to contact the submitter, who, incidentally has 45,000 names in their tree - no reply. Good luck anyway. Marjorie

I should have said I can't look on the british sites as the people are Swedish so I am not sure how I work forward from the names of the family that is on there or if they are correct as I have been having problems finding out as when I was a kid told one thing about family and my uncle told me it was someone else but when I looked at the LDS site the person is related to the person I was told about

Go through it with a fine-tooth comb. If they've missed the obvious - like women giving birth aged 90 - then the chances are it's tosh. Even if there don't appear to be any silly mistakes, consider it as a guide rather than absolute truth.

Val Ancestral files are submitted by individuals. Nobody checks them. I have found lots of errors, including someone who apparently got married about 20 years before he was born. There are a lot of people who just grabbed as many names as possible and fitted them together, not because they wanted to do their family tree, but because they wanted their family to be members of the Mormon church and put in anyone likely. The IGI info on www.familysearch.org is more reliable as it is usually taken from parish register transcripts. But as with all info, you need to check the original source wherever possible. nell
