Jane, Couple of thoughts .... It's an unusual surname, maybe it was transcribed wrongly in 1901? Have you tried various options? Other route, is to trace him as a Royal Marine ... have a look at the National Archive/PRO files starting 'ADM' (for Admiralty). A 'cousin' of mine traced an ancestor down to a series of ships on which he served and we even saw the Ship's Log for one of them - all at the PRO. Good luck. Jane

Google Historical Directiries and look in the area and date you want. I had someone in the eye infirmary in Norwich and did this to confirm. Good Luck Lin

Joseph William Cave Jackson popped up on the 1891 census at The Royal District Hospital School Greenwich. Age 13 I can't find him in 1901. I am assuming he joined the Royal Marines like his Father. Where/how can I find out more about the school? Sorry - I mis-typed that surname. As you can see quite common which makes it harder to find him

If you search for him in the census he should pop up wherever he was, even prison or hospital jess

After many years of searching I have been told an ancestor was down as a pupil at the above school on the 1891 census. Has anyone any idea where I can find out more. The teachers were described as - Seamanship instructors. This follows as his father was a Royla Marine and died between 1885-1891 (Can't find that death!) Any help would be appreciated. Jane
