Thanks for the warning. We have the magazine but luckily have not tried the CD yet.

You can safely copy the CD to your hard drive, as the virus will only activate if you run the files. You can then run the anti-virus on them, but you might have to uncheck Read Only in properties first. Peter

I have also got this disk, just reading the small print on the black bit at the back of cover. It says they strongly recommend that you run a virus checker before using the disk. So dont think I will be using mine. Sue

According to McAfee it was only the 17 files of Generation X 2.4.1 that were infected, everything else passed 'clean'.

Best way To be honest I have only looked at the cesus stuff so far and have not done a virus check since geting it so guess what i'v been doing for the last 10 mins.

I've just e-mailed them, covering myself by saying 'according to my Mcafee antivirus', so I'm not actually accusing them of sending out infected disks. Just as well I ran the virus check before opening anything!

I have just run a McAfee virus scan on the cover CD Genealogy Gateway 5 and came up with a warning that the Generation X 2.4.1 files contain the Univ.Script/99a trojan virus (also known as BAT.Darkomen). As it is a read-only disk it cannot be removed. So if you run this disk either avoid the Generation X feature or else burn the rest of the CD onto a fresh CD or hard disk, excluding the Generation X directory. A computer techie might be able to tidy that up or suggest alternatives.
