Missing from 1891 census

A load of my people are missing on Ancestry from 1891 census in Wareham area (Dorset). Also some people from 1871 in Bere Regis area (two families), & a London family in 1871 & 1891. Does this mean the returns were damaged, or just that Ancestry hasn't put them on line? Can I find any of theses censuses anywhere but Ancestry? Getting frustrated now!

Elizabeth, Have you tried searching for them just by their first names and ages in case they were mistranscribed? Crista

Put the names on here and see if someone can find them

Sometimes the writing on the census can be appalling so they might not be transcribed properly. You can search these censuses yourself at 1. the archive/library local to the census area 2. London 3. by buying the census discs - for example from S & N Genealogy. Sometimes, if it is your names you are searching for you can see what others cannot. Even when it is very bad the bits you can see make sense and the rest falls into place. This might not be possible for a transcriber. Anne

I had the same problem last week, so i put the details on here and the lovely Gwenyth found him for me! Goodness knows how but she managed it, so if i were you i'd put a bit of info on a thread and go on from there C x
