One of the good things that Family History Societies do is compile lists of 'strays' - that is people found in their area who are not local. Some FHSs have the lists for sale, and update them regularly. Anne

Trawling through some parish registers I was amazed at the number of `sojourners`and strangers, who had died and been buried there, some named, some whose names were never known.. It seems so sad that some of these will be the `disappeared` that some of us keep looking for and never find in our own trees, and wonder why. I got quite upset at three Irish labourers who had all died and been buried within days of each other. Their deaths may never be found by their rellies because they died before civil registration, away from home. Felt quite weepy about that and also all the paupers and drownings there were there at that time. Some of them must have been pretty desperate. Jay.
