You can send away for army records. Ministry of Defence Army Personnel Centre HQ Secretariat Historical Disclosures Mail Point 400 Kentigern House 65 Brown Street Glasgow G2 8EX It's best to phone them first and they will send out the forms you need to apply. You need to fill in a kinship form which lists next of kin in order, e.g. wife/widow, son/daughter, niece/nephew etc. If there is anyone one the list above where your relationship comes in the list then you have to have their permission in writing to send of for the records. You also have to send proof of death (either a certificate or obituary notice/funeral details) and a cheque for £25. You must have name, army number and regiment at time of leaving the army. The worst bit is that it can take up to 8 or 9 months to get the records. I don't know if there is anywhere online that you can access them though. Kath. x

On my dads marriage cert it states his army number under rank/profession. Can I access his army records somewhere?
