Just got some details of an ancestor who was a policeman from 1880 - 1900 and although I knew he was involved with a disciplinary in 1897 - now that I know why............ Severely reprimanded, cautioned and transferred to another Division to live in the Section House. Superintendent to report in six months on his conduct. Pay at 32s per week to 29th inst. Drunk with his face disfigured when parading for duty. ...I don't think I want him anymore.........!!! Esta

I imagine a disfigured face meant he was drunk and walked into a lamppost and had a black eye, or something like it. Sheleen I do like the idea of the disfigured railings, what a nice monument to your relative. nell

I think he sounds quite interesting. I will swop him for two plumbers and a stonemason. Or perhaps you would prefer the one who dropped dead in the town hall? Or the one who got arrested for knocking a policeman off his bicycle?

I've decided I might keep my Policeman - asa Angela said at least he's a bit interesting. I'm beginning to wonder why he drank so much - he had another 2 disaplines for being drunk both at the same time of year - A sad event in his life maybe...something to look into.. Marjorie I'll swap you for some of your James Holdens for some of my William Horwoods I have enough of them. Esta
