Hi David and Marjorie Thank you both for your input. Most of the tree has clearly been cobbled together from free internet sites and hearsay but the grandmother's date of birth is precise, so I assume it was put on by a close family member. I had just always taken it as axiomatic that there were no live entries on the site. She was, admittedly, 104 when she died and her 96 year old sister is not on the IGI, so perhaps they assume you must be dead if you're over 100?

You could call a LDS office near you and ask them what their policies are regarding adding living people.

Just a thought and I don';t know if its a good one - but, do the Members of the LDS abide by the Data Protection Act? Or, at least, did they? This lady's name may have been put on the site many years ago by an eager relative before the Law - oh, I'm so silly, its an American Site, do the USA have similar Data Protection laws to us? And if so, when did they come into force? I can understand how upsetting this is for your friend, but the information may have been put on the site many years ago, from the best of motives by a relative. Marjorie

Hi Brenda It sounds suspiciously like someone - presumably a member of the LDS church - uploaded the info some time ago without checking whether your friend's grandmother was alive or not. Not sure what can be done about this, particularly now that she has died. Suggestions anyone? Dave

I take most of what I find on Familysearch with a large pinch of salt, but had believed that no information related to any living person. Then I did a bit of research for a friend. His grandmother died at the weekend and he wanted a bit of family background. There she is on the IGI, complete with date of birth. Was the tree uploaded within the last week, or does the IGI now include living people?
