Thankyou for your help, we did take it to a local shop, they have found the culprit. A Reboot Virus, that sits in your computer waiting for you to reboot. Still to be verified but think they managed to save everything. We did have Norton installed but have now got another make. Thanks, June xx

Thanks for all replies but still haven't solved the problem. We may have to take it in to a shop to see if they can recover it. Thanks again June xx

If machine is running XP and the disc is available. Try putting the XP CD in and then restarting, some machines can boot from the CD, if that works then you could try system restore.

Gaynor has phoned, asking if anyone can help please, Someone has switched off the computer while a game was closing down. Now when you start the machine, a black screen with white writing, saying We apolgise for inconvenience, Windows start up was unsuccessful It lists various reasons, then to start again. 5 options 1) Start windows as normal 2) Start windows as last time. 3( Safe mode 4) Safe mode with network 5) ?????? Have tried each option, goes to start up, then goes back to screen with 5 options. About 20 seconds when it tries to restart itself and it still wont do anything. Please can anyone help please.
