Hello! I am trying to go a stage further in my family tree but I am uncertain what to do next My Great grand father Patrick Francis Stafford ,I believe , was born in Wexford in 1867 .I found him on the 1901 census but no record of him in 1881 or 1891. Presumeably he was still in Ireland. He moved to Liverpool and married Mary Jane Hornby in 1894 ,alas she died in 1902 . He married his second wife Elizabeth Cain in 1903.in West Derby Liverpool . Can anyone advise me on how to research either backwards or forwards from the dates in question .Any assistance or advice would be appreciated Bill Stafford

Irish records are kept in Belfast/Dublin and I don't think there's anything much available online. there's a section called Tracing Irish Roots on this website - scroll down the homepage to find it. Or google 'Wexford parish records' nell

You really need to know whether your ancestor was from Wexford County, which is quite a big county in Southern Ireland or Wexford the County Town of Wexford County. Even Wexford Town will be divided into parishes and townlands which will include all the outlying villages of the town of Wexford. I suggest you also google Griffiths Valuation and Tithe Aplotment/Baronies/Townlands/Parishes in Ireland to give you an understanding of how to go about Irish research, as you will need to know these to help you locate your ancestor. A good starting place would be to find his death certificate which may show is place of birth. You will nee to know the Townland and Parish to make any headway. He may have needed his birth certificate for his pension in England and someone may have kept it - its worth asking around the family just in case. If you google local.ie and then click on Irish Geneology there are three pages of other sites which are worth a look. Happy hunting. June
