Trudy Ive just looked on Multi map. The road is in the town centre. Its likely that the shop isnt there anymore, but i go to Northampton quite often so if you want mail me what info you have. Names/dates ect and ill see what i can find out for you. If the shop/houses are not there i can check the local library they might have some photos Julie

Julie - that would be great but I dont have a number just that it was Wellington Street even on a birth cert it just states Wellington Street. But I do love to be able to 'see' the area where my rellies worked and lived. Thanks Karen

Karen My rellies owned a shop from abt 1870s to 1960. During this period they always lived above it. Do you know if the shop/ building is still there, as i live about 15 miles away. Im happy to drive over and take some photos/ ask questions ect julie

Hi Karen that area of Northampton is, and as far as I know, always has been mainly residential, but there were a lot of 'corner' shops in the area, normally every couple of streets or so, most with accommodation either over or behind. Hope this helps. Trudy

I think if the directory was a commercial one and listed his occupation, then that would be his place of work. His private address would be in a residential directory. nell

Can anyone tell me if Wellington Street in Northampton were just houses or were/are there shops as well. My rellie lived there from 1841 - at 1865 and he appears in directories as a confectioner/shopkeeper. So am wondering if he lived over the shop.l Many thanks Karen
