Hi, has any one come across the name GERSHOM as a first name and would it be given to a male or female? I have lots of info on the family and know that the name was not a maiden name and had not been used before in the family. Thanks. |

There are 306 Gershoms as first or middle names on ancestry civil reg. I didn't go through them all (!) but they appear to be all male. I always thought Gershom was a Jewish surname. Perhaps your relative was named after a family friend in this way? nell |

Hi Marianne Gershom -Masculine-Biblical-Means 'exile' in Hebrew. This was the name of a son of Moses in the Old Testament. Hope this helps. Keith |
