Question for Brits and Americans

Does anyone know if there is a way to track down marriage information (date, place, names, etc.) on a British citizen, the bride, (I know who this person is) that married an American, the groom, (have no clue as to who this person was) in Alaska, USA? This would have taken place in the 1960's before 1966. She (the British citizen) divorced him, married someone else (I don't know how soon after), then became a naturalized US citizen in 1967. If she had already been a US citizen for the first marriage, she would have had a US social security number which might have made it easier for me to track down the information. Since she didn't have one at that time though, I don't know where to go. Any thoughts on where I should start?

Kirsten, You don't need to be a citizen to get a SSN. I don't know how it worked back then but you need to be married at least 3 years before you can apply for citizenship. Do you have her name and date of birth? You can apply for a marriage license but you will need to know the groom's name. Crista

Google 'Alaskan marriage records' and there are several sites, including this one which has an online order form: www*.*hss*.*state*.*ak*.*us/dph/bvs/marriage/default*.*htm remove * first. nell

Crista, Do you know if back in 1967 you didn't need to be a citizen to get a SSN? I've been on the website for Social Security looking at their history. I know her name and date of birth (it's my mother) but don't know the groom's name. Mom had told me about a year ago that she had been married for about a year to someone in the 1960's. She told me his first name, but not the last name. Mom died last month so I can't get any more info from her. I need to find out if this man is my father. Kirsten

Hi Mea, I'm assuming she used her maiden name. It would have been her first marriage. I found out she applied for her SSN in New Mexico, so I'm going to buy a copy of her application from Social Security. I think it's $27 for that. Her dad was living in New Mexico at that time. I'd also like to get a copy of her application for her US naturalization. Thanks for your help. :) Kirsten

Kirsten, What about her 2nd marriage? You could get her first married name from that. Crista

Crista, Her 2nd marriage was to the man I grew up thinking was my father. It's the first one I'm wondering if HE's the one. Oh wait, you're talking about the marriage certificate to the 2nd one. I'll see if I can get a copy of that to look at. Thank you! Kirsten

Hi Mea, is Alamogordo near Albuquerque? My grandfather worked as an architect there for several years. Kirsten
