COACH LACE WEAVER

Any ideas on the exact nature of a COACH LACE WEAVER? Did he make fringes for coaches, why lace & surely lace would not be called woven? It seems like a contradiction in terms. I've looked on lots of old occupation sites & it's not listed at all. Where do I go from here? Jenny

If you put 'coach lace' with the quotation marks, into Google, you will find several refs to it.

Many thanks Yvonne, I've had a look at the site & am emailing them to see if they have any more information. There are a number of coach lace weavers mentioned in various censuses but no more clue as to what they do. I will need to look more closely into the history of textiles I suspect. anyone any other ideas? Jenny

I must admit I thought the word was more like 'couche' - and related to 'cushion' - i.e. it was made against a cushion rather than knitted or crocheted or tatted. Christine
