witness at marriages.

There have been witnesses as young as 7. One of the family history magazines mentioned this December 2004 I think. Janet

I think they just had to 'understand the wedding process' in the old days, I don't think there was an age limit as such. but I think there is now. Kim

Norma I remember very clearly when I was a bridesmaid that my cousin checked I would be 18 and could sign as a witness when she married. But I have found lots of witnesses on my family certs who were definitely not 18 or 21 - one of them was 16. I don't think they were very bothered. nell

in the 1800's what was the age to be a witness at a marriage. Could it be anyage or over a certain age. On a cert ive just got im sure its a relative that was a witness but as yet i dont no who she is, but an age may help more. Thanks yet again. Norma
