Can anyone help? I have the details of one of my ancestors, a Flora Ann Flint, born c1881 in Malta. She is on the 1891 census, living with her family in Ryde, Isle of Wight. I found that she married an Alfred Farmer in the summer of 1900 at Holy Trinity Church, Ryde. So, you would expect to find Alfred and Flora Farmer as a married couple SOMEWHERE in the UK on the 1901 census, wouldn't you? I have searched for death records, just in case the unfortunate couple perished within the first year of their marriage, but nothing. The only thing I can think of is that they may have emigrated somewhere. Do any of you know where I can find embarkation lists (or have any other ideas about what might have happened to them?) Many thanks. Ellie

My honest opinion is that they have been mistranscribed. Most of my relatives in 1901 that I have managed to find have been mistranscribed. As Flora was born in Malta, you could try searching with just her first name, age and place of birth. Or they could have been on an extended honeymoon... nell

If you think they might have emmigrated, try www(.)cyndislist(.)com - remove the (). She has a great section on Immigration/Emmigration. Another tip is to purchase the 1901 census on cd's (if it's available), then you can search by age, birthplace and a few other things - you don't need to put their name in. I finally found some of my rellies this way on the 1881 census, as their surname had been transcribed incorrectly - I would never have found them otherwise. Good luck, Brenda
