I have the marriage cert for my Wife's GGF Caleb Curtis to Annie Jones in 1889 in Kensington. Annie's father is shown as William Jones (Deceased). I have Caleb and Annie on the 1901 census, which shows Annie's place of birth as Cambridgeshire. I have searched and searched FreeBMD, 1837 and '91, '81 and '71 censuses but cannot find anyone who is even close. I would ideally like to find Annie's birth, to get her parents. Anyone have any tips on searching common names? Thanks Peter

What age was Annie at marriage and in 1901 census?

Hi Karen, Annie was 26 on marriage cert, and 37 on the 1901. And sorry, I made a mistake, the marriage was in Fulham.

Peter There's some Cambridge baptism look-ups being offered on the Records Office board. Cambridge also has bmd searching online, but I suppose it would be hard for you to know which Annie Jones is yours. nell

Peter - I have found that the birthplace on census returns is not always correct, thought about looking in Fulham where she married, this is the only one I found so far (1881 census) I see your problem of trying to connect to the right Annie, have you tried William's death certificate which might give his wife which would help to narrow down Annies birth and then you could look for other children of the marriage which would help you locate them on a census in a different area? - just a thought, apologies if you have already tried all that. Thanks Crista, CURLIS! no wonder I couldn't find them. William's occupation is given as Labourer on Annies marriage cert. Karen, I have no idea when William died, only that it must have been somewhere in the 26 years between Annies birth and marriage! I don't think the family you found could be them, because of William's occupation. These were seriously poor people. Caleb started out as an Ag. Lab in Berkshire and moved to London to become a sewerman. Annie was an Ironer in a wash house in 1901.
