Hi I am trying to find the death of my great grandad, George Hill. I have only the vague memory of my dad to give me any clue as to when he died, dad says he died two years before he was born. My dad being born Sept 1938, would think death occured circa 1936. Of course, I have scoured 1837 online for 1934-1938 and can find no trace, unless he died somewhere other than Stoke on Trent. As far as I know, he had no middle name or was not known by any other name, lived and died in Stoke on Trent and was born c1871. My question is mainly when ordereing a death certificate, is there anything you could put as a checking point to make sure you've got the right one? I've already sent for the only one I could find in Stoke and it's not the right one and at £7 per cert, it could prove to be quite expensive! Any advice appreciated, Thanks Sam

Sam have you tried familyrelatives.org? It is much easier to find people on there as it brings up a selection of possibles for you to choose to view or not before paying.

Hi Heather I have just emailed them as I can't access their databases. It keeps giving me 'Session Timed Out' messages and won't even allow me to purchase credits for some reason! Hopefully they should come back to me with an answer although even the email ti advise of my problems 'timed out'... Sam

Ive spoken to them about this. They seem to think its a problem with people with IE6 Internet Explorer 6 not having changed their cookies to allow all. If you go to Tools/internet options/privacy move the slide down to allow all and see if that helps.

Thanks Heather, I will give that a try tomorrow, see if it works! Sam
