It might help to find out who WAS the licensee. They might be related to him or his wife. |

have just put 1871 pub licences into google and it brought loads of hits back. some of those may be useful c x |

There might not be any family conection between landlord and your relle. It was not unknown for pubs and Inns to let out spare acomadtion as small flats, doing away with the need to supply food ect but still getting the cash for the rooms. |

Another thought did your relly have his own business and was it in the Pubs yard like the rooms, pubs let out spare yard space as well. |
