Hi Lisa, I don't think it was. The wife was 20 at the time of marriage and uses her maiden name. Crista

Crista, you've probably thought of this, but......is there any chance this was a second marriage for either person? Could you search earlier records for a prior marriage and perhaps information would be found there? Just a thought......Lisa

Hi Lisa and Richard, They were married by a Justice of the Peace. Perhaps if it had been in a church there would have been more information. This was back in 1894. Crista

I'm surprised that there was so little info on the Amercan marriage cert. I got one from 1892, which not only has the fathers names but also both mothers, including their maiden names. Also has both bride & groom's birthplaces (town & state/country). This is a lot more info than you get with the England/Wales ones of the same time period. The only info that was missing compared with the English ones are the groom's and father's occupations. No doubt the amount of info varies from state to state - mine was New York. Richard

Crista, did you order the certificate through the government, or through the church? The reason I am asking is because years ago when I ordered a marriage certificate through the Anglican Church in Canada, quite a bit of information was provided. Hope you get a lead somewhere. I know the feeling when you don't know where to turn next.

Tracey and Lou, True! This lot were from Germany but I have no idea where. The US censuses only list a State for place of birth so it's impossible to track people down if they have a common name. Crista

I wish I knew too, Crista. I've only about 300 in mine but I've seen trees with thousands. Lord knows how long it's taken them. I just keep plugging away and hoping. J

Thanks Jan. You always hear stories of Americans with thousands of people in their trees. Makes you wonder how they do it. Crista

Sorry about that Crista, I can imagine how disappointed you were. Wish I could help, as you've helped me in the past. Jan

I ordered a marriage certificate from Chicago and was very disappointed at the lack of information it contained. There were no father's names, no addresses and no occupations. The only real information on there was the bride and groom's ages but I already knew these. I'm at a dead end with this line now. Crista
