Hi, A lot of school log books get thrown away. I have 2 rescued from a skip that were thrown there when a new headteacher took over. There is no obligation for schools to deposit them in the RO, although many do. If they aren't with the school or in the RO they have probably been thrown away. As soon as I have transcribed them the ones I rescued will be going to the county RO. Gwynne

I've been told that they used to keep school log books as well as the registers. Apparently there is more info in the log books. I also seem to remember that actress who was in the royal family was looking at a school log book in the bbc fam hist programme.

When I contacted my old school they told me they didn't keep old class registers, how true that is I don't know.

Is the local record office the same as the county/town archive because i was at the Middlesbro Archives last night and they have nothing whatsoever in regard to the to school at all.

They should be in the local record office, as schools are local authority buildings. I don't suppose the county boundary has changed in the last 50 years?

Hi Darren Might be worth calling the school your interested in and seeing if they can give you any info regarding where they send their old records/registers etc. I believe they wont release any recent info because of data protection etc but I cant remember what the time period is before its available for public to view or maybe ask at the records office if they can give any info on who would have the school records. Good luck Karen

Hi all, I am currently waiting for certs to arrive before i can do anything else and in the meantime was going to look at the school info at my local archive in MIddlesbrough. unfortunatley the archive has nothing from the school i am looking for at all. My question is where do all the records go. The school still exists and is still in use. Has anyone else come across this. Any help advice appreciated
