Does anyone know where to search early census records like 1841 or earlier?

Either on a CD that you can buy, or some kind soul may do a look up for you if you have the address if she/she has a CD; or at a main library or records office you can search it on fiche / film. Joy

Censuses earlier than 1841 were really just headcounts, a few lists of householders names survive - those that do will probably be in the county record office for the area. The 1841 and all others, up to 1901 can be viewed for the whole of England and Wales at the Family Records Centre in Myddleton Street London or county records offices and some large libraries hold them for their local area.

My local library, which is a small town one in Scotland, has the 1841 and 1851 censuses in easy to read booklet form for the whole Shire. Shaun

hiya, the best chance you have by looking in a library is to make sure it has a local studies section, this will most probably have microfische readers in, failing that your local archives office Regards Julie
