Problem accessing 1861 census on 1837online

Just a tip if you can find the person by looking at the census sheet it is better than an address search because if you have an address search and then want to print the census page it takes 6 units - looking for the person and then printing the census sheet only takes three units. The drawback if the family stretched over 2 papes then of course it cost you another 3 units. Also if you go back to look at a page you have already looked at you still have to pay again so it is easier to print the pages up as you look at them. Will be a very good site when it is up to date. Good Luck Irene

Hi they have at least nos 11-75 Curtain Road Shoreditch missing as my ancestor would have to live at no. 22! Email them.

I've managed to access it alright, but can anyone confirm that some data is missing?? I have found a relative on the 1881 census, Luke Walsam (think it should be Walsom), who it shows was born in 1841, but can't find him on the 181 census. I assume he was living in the Holloway/Islington/Middlesex area. Can anyone confirm that part of this area is missing from the census, or is it just me???? Jan

Thank you so much, Ann and Malcolm. You are right, Malcolm, I did what you said and it works. I just assumed that if the cursor did not appear in the box, it would not work, and never got as far as typing. Well, so much for the first law of genealogical research: Never assume anything! You would think I would have learned by now, wouldn't you. (And after all that, the people I was looking for are not there. Typical.) Tina

I just tried it + it worked ok. I am using AOL browser. I think they are having teething probs , as it's only been online a day!

I found that the cursor does not appear in the input boxes, so it looks as if it won't let me type but if I start typing then what I type appears in the box. Try clicking on an input box, then typing and see if that works. They may have done something fancy that only works in internet explorer and ignores the fact that use of other browsers is increasing.

Reading other messages there seems to be a problem with the 1861 census....only certain areas are listed AND apparently a few entries are missing. I think they have rushed to get it online. Ann

Is anyone else having trouble with this? I can get into the search page for the 1861 census, but it will not let me type in a name. I can click on the dropdown arrows and drop down the boxes, but not add any names, or places or ages in the boxes where you have to type things in. The BMD search facility is working OK for me, I am properly logged in and have current valid units. Any ideas, anyone? Tina
