Kelly, you can also go to familysearch website and look at the IGI records (though some of these are submitted by people just like you and me, so have to be double checked). or you can look at the addresses they have for family records centres near you where you can ask to see the fiches for the Parishes you are interested in for a small fee.Thats handy if you are a hundred miles from the parish or something.

Not at all. I remember being completely bamboozled when I started and I didn't have this site to turn to. If it wasn't for a friend of mine showing me what to do I wouldn't have made any progress at all. So ask away, and I'm sure someone on here will know the answers, or at least point you in the right direction. Kate :)

Once you get beyond the census and civil registration the next step is probably to start looking through local parish records of baptisms, marriages and burials. These are stored at each Counties Archives office. It means putting in a bit of travelling time, or purchasing the relevent CD/Book/Microfiche in the case of records which have been transcribed. ive not been doing this all that long but have done quite well and have got back to around early 1800s but where do i go from here . most of my information has come from census so im know in a bitt of a fix sorry if this is a silly question but i have seen people have gone right back into 1700s1600s and so on thanks for any help
