Its a shame you bought Nortons already, you could have downloaded AVG7 free which is excellent. Have you got a firewall? You could get sygate or zonealarm free too!

Curious - sounds like a nightmare. Can the dealer who sold you the PC help at all ? Yeah, be careful of spoof type emails - EBay is a favorite allegedly.... I'll have a quick look under 'downloads' on the Norton/Symantec site.

Hi Laird No number on the message. As i say, there were 9 updates, a couple just took seconds to download but one of them i sat watching had 230,000 to start with (cant remember what it was called) i have been round in circles looking at all the 'help' pages but seeing as i dont know what it is relating to in regards to unistalling it,it doesnt help. I did type in the whole message in some help box i found and it took me to pages abour SPAM, does that give any clues? This is so annoying. buy a new computer and all keen to use it,instead i spent most of last evening and most of today watching Norton download - oh and finding out how to activate Active X because i couldnt download the DjVu viewer, then to cap it all i had a letter from e-bay telling me they are closing my account because i have violated thier rules, saying i owed money and wanted my account details. I have never had an ebay account so smelt a fish straight away, turns out what they call 'spoof' email, so closed my email address down that i was using and in the process of changing my email address on GR managed to close my account with them and lost everything i had on GR, luckily for me they are not as stupid as i am and i have now got my account back, but it was a scarey few hours!! maureen

summat weird there - mine downloads about 3 or 400K at the most when it has multiple updates. A 2005 version should be pretty up to date apart from Virus definitions and Parental Control stuff.... Is there a message number - you may be able to click on it to get to Norton/Symantec's support website for a solution. If you can find an error message number, post it on here and I'll look it up for you. Cheers
