One of my favourite sites for links is: http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/ Amongst other things, it also gives the links for the Local RO (Record Office) sites (where they exist). The GRO records are made up from quarterly transcriptions from the local records - an opportunity for lost and mis-transcribed records. GRO usually sends certs using a photocopy of their original record (i.e. the old transcription). Local ROs often send a modern transcription of their record. The fees are the same; Local Offices are often, but not always, quicker than GRO. I believe that both can be amenable to phonecalls. Christine

If you go to the GenesReunited homepage you will see a New to GR link which gives you lots of information that you will need when you research.

go to 1837 online you can check up the references and order the certificates on line 7.00 per certificate and look ups 5.00 minimum i think its 10p a page. Hope that helps Mandy

If you go to FreeBMD and look up your ancestors on there you will get a reference number and an area - you need both of these to order your certificates. You can order from the local register office where they were born married or died but where ever you get them they cost £7 each. Good Luck Irene.

You can apply for them on line on the GRO website. cost £7 each and take about 2 weeks to arrive.. Jess

hi there, i'm relatively new to this . I have got to the point now where i have gathered lots of information. I was wondering how you go about gettng birth certificates or copies of.. Can you find them on a website ? if s owhichis the best one to use or do you hve to go to an office. I expect this question as been answered many times before and i'm sorry for repeating. Any advice on how to go about this would be much appreciated steph
