How big was Oldham in 1871? Is the uncle living near the Johnsons? Could they be related by marriage? Is Mr Johnson in the same line of work as the uncle? nell

This has probably been asked a million times on here, my gg grandma was orphaned at 5 and her brother was 2/3, I found Annie in 1871 living with her uncle in Oldham, and her brother with a Johnson family in the same town recorded as Adopted son, as their uncle was in the same town is it likely he knew the Johnsons and arranged for them to foster Richard? At the moment I don't believe the Johnsons were related and I don't think either child was in an orphanage and claimed by these people, if that were the case it ain't likely they'd have ended up in the same town is it? as they were orphaned in Rochdale. Have lost trace of young Richard after 1881 when he was 18 and staying with his great uncle.
