None of my Irish Catholic lot registered births, it seems to be quite common amongst this section of society. Some of mine also returned to Ireland sometime between 1871 and 1881. Perhaps yours did too, in which case even a professional will have difficulty. tracing anything. One based in Ireland might be better placed to research, but if you don't know whereabouts in Ireland then they won't be able to do much either. If you do pay, write down for them everywhere you've looked and everyone you've discounted, as they charge by the hour.

Hi Norma, I went back and found your postings about your Corcorans. I believe I may have found them on the 1871 Christopher Cochrane 2 Ireland Son Liverpool Lancashire Eliza Cochrane 36 Ireland Wife Liverpool Lancashire Eliza Cochrane 6 Ireland Daughter Liverpool Lancashire Mary Cochrane 1 Ireland Daughter Liverpool Lancashire Peter Cochrane 40 Ireland Head Liverpool Lancashire If this is the right family then that would explain why you couldn't find him after 1851 or a birth certificate. I couldn't find a marriage record or birth records for any of the children in England. Hope this saves you some money. Rose

Norma, if you can't find your ancestors and people on GR can't either, then the chances are that professional reseachers will have no better luck. They might have access to something like the Society of Genealogists' library which has all sorts of transcripts, many of which are not on the internet, but not all of these are indexed. You don't say which period it is in which your ancestors have disappeared, but if it is the mid 1800s or later, then a professional researcher will probably be trawling through the same records as you have used, with little hope of success.

Norma I presume you have tried posting details on the site? There are lots of clever people on here with acess to lots of sites, records etc. They have helped me many times when I thought there was no hope! If you have already tried that then I guess it depends what you need to kick start your research again and how much you would be willing to pay. I think you would need to be very clear about this yourself before you enlisted a researchers services. If the area you are researching is a long way away a local researcher could prove cheaper than travelling there yourself in the long run. Alice

Hi Has anybody used a proffesional researcher to help them. Im thinking about using one as my corcoran's seemed to have dissapeared of the face of the earth. Would a researcher be able to perhaps find them or at least more info than i can access. Loads of peeps have tried to help but theyv'e disappeared. Would it be worth it. Any advice would be good. Thanks
