I have found 60 pages of children in Familysearch 1881 census. The institute is the central london dist school hanwell middlesex. If you search for Clara allen female age 10 birthplace st saviours her name is on the top of the list of children and then follows 60 pages of children and staff What is this place???

it was probably a childrens home, or a poor house. I found one of my relatives in London in one, quite sad really. Ciara

'Hanwell's most famous pupil is Charlie Chaplin. He was taught at a school for the poor called Central London District School. This was found in 1856, originally conditions were terrible and many children died from infectious illnesses. The school was pulled down in the 30s when it was no longer needed. Part of this school remains today as a community centre.'

Thanks Jenny It was so sad to read all those childrens names .How strange I was born and brought up in a childrens home near by in Ealing in the 30s Thanks Geoff I learn something of interest from you lovely people everyday So I do have something in common with Charlie Chaplin but not his walk lol
