Been hunting for ages for a marriage of a Mary A/Maria Abbott to someone with the surname Haigh anywhere in the country between 1851-1860 without luck. She was born in Flitwick,Beds She and a mystery man had a son Frederick in Brighouse,Yorks, mum & baby were in Rochdale in 1861 with her sister, dad nowhere to be seen, both had vanished by 1871 and further censuses. The marriage could literally be in any year at any place Did they emigrate, die or go to planet Mars???? grrrrrrrrrr

Maybe they never married? Maybe Mr Haigh died or left Mary/Maria and she remarried? nell

How flexible have you been about the spelling? Abbott also crops up with a single T or with an S. I think Haigh sometimes crops with the A replaced by E or L. That doesn't consider simple mis-transcriptions. You may have covered these risks but, if you were using FreeBMD (or the Ancestry copy of that database), it's still a work-in-progress, plus there are occasional instances of records which didn't make it through the transcription process from Local RO to GRO. The latter problem would affect 1837Online too, of course. And then... If you have a look on this site: http://www.cs.ncl.ac.uk/genuki/StCathsTranscriptions/#Missing especially http://www.cs.ncl.ac.uk/genuki/StCathsTranscriptions/CATHNU.html you'll see that there have been other, more modern, problems. Its possible there was no marriage and that she adopted the dads name I suppose, I've considered remarriage and had tried the the first name and birth place search on 1881 & 1891 but it came up with no matches. Have tried Abbott/Abbot, never heard of it being spelt with an S on the end tho.
