Hi Alice, Well I know he was born 1825, so that makes him 36 when he married - which matches the age for 1891 at 66yrs. Oh well, I guess I will just have to wait till I 'meet up' with them to find out the true story LOL............

Anne I have a couple whose details read similar to that, The wife was Hannah then Anna. I assumed these were one and the same as they were born in the same village. Then I discovered he had remarried and they were in fact different people- perhaps he lied because his wife was young ? Just a thought Alice

Anne I don't know about VRI ages, but from my own experience my relatives ages on censuses are fairly exact. The only ones I've found to be a bit suspect are the ones given on death certs. As with all records they are as accurate as the people who recorded the information. nell

Can the ages on these be trusted as accurate?? I know the ages on census returns are seldom accurate, and I have the pair on all from 1871 to 1891, plus his death, but these suggest that the ages given at marriage may not be 10% correct. Can anyone help??
