7 son's, all policemen !!!!!!!

Just found out that my Grandmother's brother had 7 son's all of them joined the police force. Grans brother was called Archie and wife Peggy, think he was born in 1900-01, as my nan was b 1902. Can anyone tell me where to go and look for them, they lived in Maybole Scotland, surname FULTON. Regards Sue

Hi Susan Ellen again! The only Archibald Fulton born 1900/1901 in Ayrshire was born in Kilmaurs - which ties in with one of the Margarets I gave you on the other thread. BUT!! His parents are James and Isabella Fulton. This is the family on 1901 census at 12, Glencairn Place, Main Street, Kilmaurs: James Fulton, Head, 24, Coal Miner, b. Kilmaurs Isabella Fulton, Wife, 22,b. Kilmaurs ArchibaldFulton, Son, 1month, b. Kilmaurs. I think you're going to have to invest in a few credits with Scotlandspeople and go rooting around Ayrshire for your folks. The site is www.scotlandspeople(.)gov(.)uk Remove all brackets. Susan I have 7 great-uncles, 5 of whom became policemen in the Met and one in the City of London. This was at the end of the 19th century. They were born in Norfolk and apparently the Met recruited from the countryside as men were considered fitter & healthier than those born in London. My gt uncles joined the police as the alternatives were poorly-paid agricultural labouring, or fishing which their mother thought too dangerous. Not sure if Scottish police are the same, but apart from the Met whose records are at Kew, local police forces either keep their own archives or they end up at county records offices. nell
