Sammy, sorry I can't remember if it was YOU that I was twinned with - last week too for your birthday? I expect you'll be quite a bit older than me though! ;o) Nell I guess there must be 30+ fiche viewers. I don't know of a booking system, but I've never been at the weekend. Someone told me yesterday that it is now FREE to visit GRO - previously was £2. You need to produce ID, but not any photos unless they have changed the system. Incidentally some of the censuses are kept in the main library, not the RO. You must let us know when you are coming over.

Welcome Helen in Glos from Ann in Glos. I think we should have a Gloucester thread now so off to put it on the General topics board. Ann Glos

Helen An especial welcome for another Helen! If in doubt about what/where to post, just have a quick look through the existing postings - that'll give you a good idea about how to/how not to do it. Smiley Sam & Geoff - have either of you been to Glos. Records office? I am hoping to get there one weekend. Is it big/crowded? nell

Hello Jeanette & Smiley Sammy Thank you both for your prompt & friendly replies. Hopefully my name will have changed on this message. I'm off to the records office board now. Thanks for your help

Hi Helen A specific look up should be posted on the Records Office board, include place and year in the title. Anyone with those records will help you out, try and include whatever info you already have in the message too, name, age, place of birth, it saves you being bombarded with questions. As for the name you have displayed... click on the left 'Account details' log in and you will see your name. The first & 4th lines are what is actually displayed, change it to whatever you like. Hope this helps Regards Sam

Hi Helen and welcome! The best place for census look ups is the Records Office board, but we do do the odd one on here too! To change your message name, go into 'Your Account' and change it there. Do a few test on this page if you like, then delete them Jeanette x

If I would like help with a census look up, should I post the query on this board or on the records office board? Also how can I choose the name that will be displayed next to my message? Thanks
